Creatine Kinase, Total
Creatine kinase (CK) is an enzyme found mostly in skeletal muscles, heart, and other tissues with lesser amounts in the brain. The Creatine Kinase (CK) Total Blood Test is used to measure the amount of creatine kinase in the blood. An elevated level of CK in the blood may indicate muscular injuries and diseases. The diseases may include Muscular dystrophy (a group of inherited diseases in which the muscle that controls movement (voluntary muscles) weaken and damages with time) Rhabdomyolis (a medical condition that involves the rapid dissolution of skeletal muscle that is damaged or injured). In addition to that, the test can also be used to diagnose a heart attack (though not very often) as there are other better tests available to detect heart damages like troponin.
