Syphillis RPR
Used to detect syphilis; a sexually transmitted infection caused by a bacterium known as Treponema Pallidum. The disease is characterized by the presence of a painless sore in the genitals, mouth, or rectum of both males and females. Complications may also arise from this infection. The syphilis test detects antibodies in the blood that are produced in response to a Treponema Pallidum infection. The test measures rapid plasma reagin (RPR), a biomarker in the body that is present when there is syphilis. The RPR test measures antibodies that are present in the blood of a person who has syphilis. For this purpose, the level (titer) of antibodies is measured.
